- Family Matters - Matter Ware, (PC)
Family Matters is a shareware genealogy program written expressly for Windows by Ray Nicklas. Family Matters 3.31 is a Ziff-Davis Net 5-Star Editor's Pick program and a finalist in the Family Internet category in the 1998 Ziff-Davis Shareware Awards competition. Family Matter's was reviewed by Dick Eastman in Vol. 1 No. 41, the October 21, 1996 edition of the Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter.
- Family Origins - Parsons Technology, (PC)
Family Origins is a Windows genealogy program, with numerous reports, at an economical price. Family Origins 6.0 was reviewed by Dick Eastman in Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter, Vol. 2 No. 35, August 30, 1997. Version 7.0 of the program is currently available.
- Family Roots - orphan users home page, (PC, MAC)
In August 1997, Quinsept Software, seller of Family Roots, was closed. Users of that program can find information about the program at this web site.
- Family Tree Maker - Broderbund, (PC, MAC)
Family Tree Maker is a Windows and Macintosh software program. Version 4.0 was reviewed by Dick Eastman in the June 23, 1997 edition of his newsletter, Version 4.4 was reviewed by Dick Eastman in the February 21, 1998 edition of his newsletter, and Version 5.0 was reviewed in the August 8, 1998 edition of his newsletter.
- Generations - Sierra Home, (PC)
Generations is a Windows based program formerly known as Reunion for the PC.
- Legacy - Millenia Corporation, (PC)
Legacy is a Windows program with excellent report capability. Numerous reviews about the program are available.
- Personal Ancestral File - Silicon Valley PAF Users Group (PC)
PAF comes from the LDS, Family History Department. There is no official home page. PAF 3.0 is a DOS based program that will run under Windows. It's interface is based on function keys instead of the mouse. PAF 3.0 was reviewed in Vol. 2 No. 21, the May 26, 1997 edition of Dick Eastman's newsletter.
- Reunion - Leister Productions, (Mac)
Reunion is probably the most popular Macintosh based genealogy program. It's most current version is 6.0. Reunion 5.0 was reviewed in Vol. 2 No. 40, the October 6, 1997 edition of Dick Eastman's newsletter.
- The Master Genealogist - Wholly Genes, Inc., (PC)
The Master Genealogist (TMG) is the most extensive featured program available for genealogy, and is best described as a genealogy research tool. The latest version is 3.6. Version 3.5 was first reviewed in the February 2, 1998 edition of Dick Eastman's newsletter, then reviewed again in May 4, 1998 edition of his newsletter.
- Ultimate Family Tree - Palladium, (PC)
The Ultimate Family Tree is a Windows based program originally known as Family Gatherings from Commsoft. The program was first reviewed by Dick Eastman in his July 7, 1997 newsletter, with additional comments in the April 6, 1998 edition of the newsletter.
